Basketball Movies to Watch with your Young Athlete






Royal Basketball School believes that immersing your child in basketball related media will allow them to  develop a deeper appreciation for the game. Ultimately, motivating your child to replicate what they have seen a professional athlete do in a particular film. The basketball films listed below, are a great place to start.

Michael Jordan to the Max (2000) Rated: G

This film is a documentary. It has an incredible mix of game footage, as well as interviews with Michael Jordan himself. It takes the viewer on a journey through Michael's development. You will get to see how he progresses from his childhood days, all the way through his historic career. 






Hoosiers (1986) Rated: PG

This basketball film focuses on a collegiate coach, who is responsible for turning around a suffering basketball program into a total success. The trials and tribulations that the coach has to navigate, will give your child a sneak-peak into what it is like playing college basketball for a successful program. 







Space Jam (1996) Rated: PG

Kids classic! While there is more entertainment value than practical basketball knowledge to be found, it can still teach your child a few things about competition, hard work, and to believe in oneself.







Like Mike (2002) Rated: PG

Another entertaining basketball movie for kids. Much like Space Jam, there is more entertainment value than basketball substance. Nonetheless, it possesses a good message about family and friendship. 





Glory Road (2006) Rated: PG

This movie explores how a basketball team manages to rise above the racism and prejudices that they face to become an incredible success. It puts into perspective what players in this time had to deal with just to simply play a sport they loved. 





The Air Up There (1994) Rated: PG

A fun movie about an American basketball coach who travels to Africa to scout talent and teach the game. The film teaches about training, overcoming doubt, and working hard to achieve your goals.
