Group Lessons: How To Spark Interest

It's back to school season and many parents are looking for a sports section for their kids. However, when it comes to team sports or any kind of group lessons, they often face this one problem.

Kids don't adapt well to the group environment and want to quit class straight away.

Royal Basketball school has extensive experience with kids of all ages and this happens to 80% of our students, so we know for sure that it doesn't have to do with the school nor with the activity.

Why younger children don't adapt well to group lessons?

1. They are not the center of attention anymore - kids get lost when the attention switches to only them (and their siblings) to a larger group of kids
2. They don't understand what's going on - if the kid is not familiar with the game he/she might feel confused with all the new information
3. They get scared of loud noises - basketball classes usually involve a lot of different noises, like the sound of balls falling, whistling, coach instructions... etc. All these unusual noises can make your kid feel uncomfortable.

How to cope with this?

Easy! Talk with your child about the game and discuss the exercises coaches give. Make sure your young athlete understand the rules and what the exercises are for. But most importantly - don't give up! It usually takes 2-5 tries before our youngest #Royals get the feel of the amazing game of basketball.
