4 Reasons Why Your Kid Should Play Basketball
Develop self-discipline.
Basketball is a game that requires constant movement. As a player, your kid has to run, dribble, pass and, shoot, and that’s a good thing. As your kid gets exhausted, sweat, and maybe shed a tear or two, you’re helping them develop the self-discipline that they need as they grow older to become responsible adults.
Overcome challenges.
Facing an opponent in court is a challenge in itself. Your kid can learn to overcome challenges better by listening to the coach, learning to be a team player and, knowing how to make quick decisions. Your child may face bigger, faster, and stronger opponents but with the right strategy and positive mindset, these opponents become just another challenge he/she needs to overcome.
Improve self-esteem.
Winning a game feels good, but sometimes, you lose and that is a-okay. The earlier kids realize that sometimes they have to fail to come out even stronger, the better it will be for their self-esteem. Let your kid know that you have his/her back every step of the way.
Have fun.
Your kid’s coaches and teammates can be friends and support each other. With every game they play together, they become closer and the bond becomes stronger. Because of this, every game becomes fun and every challenge, a new adventure.
If you’re still not ready to commit to a full basketball session, consider a trial class instead. Start with the basics and have your kid learn basketball from your own home.
