Basketball Routine at Home

Image
For most spectators, playing basketball may not seem to be a big deal. They see players dribbling, passing and shooting baskets – or missing some – and think to themselves that that’s all to it. But each and every player knows that to earn a spot in the team, you need to put in a lot of effort, hard work, and dedication to play the game of basketball. “Remember that basketball is a game of habits. If you make the other guy deviate from his habits, you’ve got him” – Bill Russell “Remember that basketball is a game of habits.” Bill Russell is right, and we can’t emphasize enough the importance of a basketball routine and developing a healthy habit out of it. As gyms remain closed for now, consider having your basketball routine right from your own home. Start by doing simple drills and move forward from there. Dribble and pass on Mondays and Fridays, shoot on Tuesdays, and stretch and do station drills on Wednesdays. This not only helps to improve muscle memory and build a strong immune ...

7 TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE YOUR CHILDREN EXCITED ABOUT SPORT GAMES Here are 7 ideas to try out with kids of all ages: FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA 1. INSPIRE THEM VIA PERSONAL EXAMPLE Bring them to your “extracurricular” activity. Ideally, it should be related to the sport they are going to start practicing. However, any kind of sport, even any kind of hobby, like arts or walking tours etc., may do the job. Let your child feel that “extracurricular” does not mean extra homework. It means extra fun. Extra excitement. Extra interesting, fascinating and unforgettable experience. Let them see that you - and adult - do it absolutely voluntarily, because it makes you happier. Then the child gets interested in finding his / her own hobby.  2. SHOW THEM WHAT THEY ARE SIGNING UP TO Give you kids an idea of what their “ out-of-school” activities are about. Take them to see a professional game. Play this game with them in your backyard. Show them a championsh...

Quick Drill: Shooting Under Pressure

Image
How the Drill Works: Players must complete eight shots (two from each high post) while "under the pressure" of knowing that if they miss the shot, they have to join the same line and try again. Purpose: Allows players to practice shooting open jump shots while under mental pressure. Setup: 4 lines of players on each elbow. Can be as many players as you like. 4 basketballs. One with the first person in each of the lines.   Instructions: 1.  When the coach says to start, the first person in each line takes a shot and returns the ball back to the same line.   If they make the shot they move to the next line, if they miss they join the same line to try again. 2.  This process continues until a player has made a total of eight shots. Scoring System: Each player counts their own amount of makes until they reach eight made shots (make two shots from each elbow). You can decide whether to stop after there is a winner or keep playing until everyone ...

Learning social skills is arguably the most beneficial skill your young child will acquire by taking classes at Royal Basketball School. We have found that children tend to pick up on the skills we teach them much faster when they are being taught in a group setting. The way in which we set-up classes will al...
